THE NEW CHIEF TONGUE is a rough cut innovative poetry magazine published 1-3 times a year by Laurel Reed Books. The adventure of the tongue is that it celebrates poetry of all kinds. From lyric to sound to concrete to visual to haiku and on. The editors of TNCT believe very strongly in the poetics of inclusion, that genre is a door, a window, not a wall.
The magazine is photocopied onto Legal sized paper that is folded in half to make pages. Some of these sheets are reversed so that the entire page can fold out or unroll like a tongue. This technique is especially useful when presenting longer poems or visual pieces. Each issue is between 20 and 50 pages and no more than 100 copies are made.
All issues are available for trade as well. If you have something to offer just mail it with a request and we'll return the favour.
